Where There Is No Doctor (WTIND) has been translated into over 70 languages and serves both as a health care training tool and reference in thousands of villages around the world. The World Health Organization has said, “Where There is No Doctor is arguably the most widely-used public health manual in the world; a text that has meant survival for thousands in the Third World since the early 1970s.”
We are happy to announce that WTIND is now available in khmer - contextualized, updated, and re-illustrated for the Cambodian people. It follows the format of the latest English edition (9th printing) so finding information is easy for non-khmer readers. The English Edition of WTIND can be found in its entirety on the Hesperian Foundation website.
When we talk about environmental health, we mean the way our health is affected by the world around us, and also how our activities affect the health of the world around us. If our food, water, and air are contaminated, they can make us sick. If we are not careful about how we use the air, water, and land, we can make ourselves and the world around us sick. By protecting our environment, we protect our health.
Improving environmental health often begins when people notice that a health problem is affecting not just one person or group, but is a problem for the whole community. When a problem is shared, people are more likely to work together to bring about change.
As with Where There Is No Doctor, Khmer Edition, this Khmer edition of A Community Guide to Environmental Health matches the English First Edition (May 2008) page for page making it useful for both khmer and non-khmer readers. The English Edition can be found on the Hesperian Foundation website.
Cambodia is a rich country of warm people and vast natural resources. May this book be one key unlocking her limitless potential in the years to come!
